Cody Coughlin is heading to the honeymoon capital of the Northeast fresh off his career-best run in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The 21 year-old has not gotten married, nor is he heading there for a vacation, instead he is heading Pocono on business. His mission… to continue to improve his best career finish when he competes in the Overton’s 150 at the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway with his ThorSport Racing team.
Coughlin has raced at the “Tricky Triangle” three times in his career, twice in the ARCA Racing Series and once in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Coughlin’s best finish came in ARCA where he has finished ninth, twice.
“Pocono is a tough race track. They don’t call it the Tricky Triangle for nothing. I’ve had fun there every time I’ve raced there. It’s a high-speed track with flat corners so it’s fast, but technical. I think we’ll run well there. Our run at Eldora has all of us excited and I think it’ll carry over to Pocono.”
The Delaware, Ohio native finished 11th last race on the dirt at the legendary Eldora Speedway in front of his home state fans and his family. Coughlin said he believes that will give his No. 13 JEGS.com/RIDE TV team a lot of positive momentum heading into Saturday’s 150-mile race.
“That was really cool to be able to run as well as we did there. I have hardly any dirt experience, so we went in with no expectations. To come out of there with that strong of a run was really cool. We needed something positive to go our way. We’ve had a lot of bad luck this year. That shouldn’t be our best run, but the luck has kept us from getting the finishes we’ve deserved. Hopefully that run will be the turnaround and we’ll walk out of Pocono with a really strong finish for Duke and Rhonda Thorson and everybody that works so hard to make these trucks go fast.”
Coughlin’s race weekend at Pocono Raceway begins on Friday, July 28th with the first practice session taking place at Noon ET. Final practice will follow at 2 p.m. ET. Both practice sessions will air live on FOX Sports 1.
Saturday, July 29th is Overton’s 150 race day at Pocono. The day will begin with single-truck qualifying at 10 a.m. ET live on FOX Sports 1. The Overton’s 150 will see the green flag wave at 1 p.m. ET live on FOX.
Saturday’s race is a 60-lap/150-mile event. It is broken up into three stages. The first stage ends on lap 15. The second stage ends on lap 30. The final stage ends at the checkered flag on lap 60.
Race fans can meet Cody Coughlin on Friday at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series autograph session at 10 a.m. ET.
