When Cody Coughlin was young he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps as a racer car driver, yet he still wanted to be his own person.  So, instead of traveling down the straight path as a drag racer, he decided to turn left to stock car racing on the oval tracks of America.  That too will change this weekend when Coughlin turns left and right in his first NASCAR start on a road course.

Coughlin will take on the legendary road course of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario in his JEGS.com/RIDE TV No. 13 Toyota Tundra for ThorSport Racing with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

The 21-year-old driver from Delaware, Ohio said he expects the historic racing facility to be quite the challenge, but it’s a challenge he’s ready to face.

“I enjoy the challenge of a new track,” Coughlin said.  “I know that this will be very different from pretty much anything I’ve ever done, but I’m excited to see what we can do on the road course on Sunday.”

Fortunately for Coughlin, Sunday’s race will not be his first on a road course. Coughlin posted a top-10 run at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in ARCA Racing Series competition with a sixth-place finish in 2015.  In fact, he was challenging for the win in that race until the engine on his car lost a lot of horsepower.

“I enjoyed my time on the road course in ARCA.  Road course racing is an exciting challenge,” he explained.  “I’m definitely glad I at least have some competitive experience with road racing heading into this weekend.”

Coughlin will take to the 10-turn road course for the first time on Saturday, September 2 at 9:30 a.m. ET for the first of two practice sessions. Final practice will follow beginning at 11:35 a.m. ET. Pole qualifying will also take place on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. ET live on FOX Sports 2.

Sunday, September 3 is race day at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. Sunday’s race will see the green flag wave at 2:30 p.m. ET live on FOX Sports 1. Sunday’s race will be broken down into three stages. The first stage will end on lap 20. The second stage will end on lap 40. The final stage will end at the checkered flag on lap 64.

Coughlin’s No. 13 JEGS.com/RIDE TV Toyota Tundra will carry an onboard camera for the FS1 broadcast.

Race fans hoping to meet Cody Coughlin can do so at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series autograph session on Saturday from 2-2:45 p.m. in Paddock E.
