Five races remain in Cody Coughlin’s first full NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season and now Coughlin is heading to one of his favorite race tracks on the schedule. Coughlin will pilot his No. 13 RIDE TV/JEGS.com Toyota Tundra for ThorSport Racing in the fred’s Pharmacy 250 at the 2.66-mile behemoth of Talladega Superspeedway.
Coughlin’s favorite style of racing takes place on the superspeedways of Talladega and its sister track of Daytona International Speedway. The 21-year-old driver said he can’t wait until Saturday’s race.
“I love racing at the Superspeedways. It’s fun to be bunched up the whole time and to be able to really use the air, and draft and try to get runs. It’s so intense. It’s like high-intensity freeway driving. I’m really looking forward to the race on Saturday.”
Coughlin has seen success at the big ti-oval in Alabama. He scored a pole and finished second in the ARCA Racing Series at Talladega in 2015.
The Delaware, Ohio native will be piloting chassis No. 64 out of ThorSport’s Sandusky, Ohio shop. It’s the same chassis that Coughlin raced to an 11th-place finish in the season-opener back in February at Daytona.
Coughlin is coming off a career-best finish of sixth in the series’ most recent event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Coughlin believes that he and his team now have positive momentum on their side heading into Talladega.
“I feel really good after our Vegas finish. I wish that we could have had more of those types of finishes throughout the season, but we’ve had some bad luck this year. We still have a few races left to get finishes that are even better than that one. That begins at Talladega this week, so hopefully we’ll have luck on our side and God keeps all of us safe and we walk out of there with a strong finish.”
Coughlin will hit the race track for the first of two practices on Friday, October 13th at 11 a.m. CT. Final practice will take place at 1 p.m. CT. Both practice sessions will air live on FOX Sports 1.
Saturday, October 14th is fred’s Pharmacy 250 race day at Talladega. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT with single-truck pole qualifying live on FOX Sports 1. Coughlin will see the green flag fly at 1 p.m. ET/Noon CT on FOX Sports 1.
Saturday’s race is 94 laps for a total of 250.04 miles. The event has been broken down into three stages. The race’s first stage will end on lap 20. The second stage will end on lap 40, and the race’s final stage will end on lap 94 unless NASCAR Overtime is required.
